Now, I don’t want to sound elitist and arrogant here, but honestly people doing nothing changes nothing. If you want things to change in some small way get off your ass and take the steps toward accomplishing what it is you desire. It really is not that hard. The problem is that it is not an instant gratification process. It takes time which is why most people are content to wallow in emotardness rather than word toward their goal.

Recently on a message board I frequent I ran across a post about a woman with PCOS who wanted to lose weight so she could have a better chance at conceiving. While I was reading her post I became a bit disgruntled. Her post was full of woe is me and my condition attitude and excuses that it was just impossible due to PCOS making weight-loss hard and how they couldn’t eat healthy because of their budget1.

Yes PCOS does medically make it difficult for women to lose that spare tire, but it is not impossible. You just have to work a bit harder for your results. Trust me I know. I have PCOS and lost almost 45lbs in three months this year. You know how I lost the weight? I did something about it. I chose what I wanted the most over what I wanted in that moment. I stopped making excuses and told myself I was fat because I wasn’t doing anything to change it.

Another thing is that I didn’t have unrealistic expectations. Yes I set my goal as being less than 200lbs which was a  37lb loss before we would attempt trying to conceive with medical assistance again, but I did not set a date it had to be done by. I left that up to my will and how badly I wanted it.

My goal was realistic because I understood that the weight would come off faster if I changed my diet and removed my ass from the couch, which thanks me for no longer having a permanent impression.  ;d   This would be a slow process, after all the weight gain didn’t suddenly appear over night either.

My example of the woman who could easily begin losing weight once she stops with the excuses is just one example. There are plenty of others like;

  • Being in an unhappy relationship.
  • Being unhappy because you didn’t go to college.
  • Having a cluttered home.
  • Being in debt after spending money frivolously each month.
  • Not knowing how to cook mac-and-cheese

I would add not being able to cook microwave popcorn to the list, but that really is something I personally have attempted to change. It’s an ongoing failure that I have yet to master so I can see how it would be hugely difficult for others to master. :P

So here is one of my favorite quotes to leave you with;

The reason most people are unsuccessful is because they choose what they want at the moment over what they want the most.

Feel free to share your favorite quotes of similar nature with me!

  1. Yet they could afford to eat chicken fried steak. Eating healthy is NOT highly expensive.

Totally agree with you hun, some people just need to shut up and get on with it, the one that gets me is woe I have no money and it is all their own doing!

That’s always been a pet peeve. “We haz no moneys yet we buy Nintendo Wii’s, XBOX 360s, and have HBO Premium packages!” cut back on the things you don’t need and make some sacrifices if you’re really that bad off.

I stop feeling sorry for them. They deserve what they get.

Sometimes I quit following blogs when every other entry is about how poor they are, but hey, look at what they just bought on *credit* again! Yeah! Or, my favourite, is always the people who cheat on their significant other and then complain about it online when their SO finds out and everyone seems to think that they’re a slut/man-whore.

I think for me, I was in that sort of mind set for a while – but it was about my grades and how well I was doing in school. Once I stopped completely blaming my profs for their poor teaching skills (and I will admit, a lot of them should NOT be teaching/lecturing), I took charge and actually started liking my classes/labs and whatnot. And even started liking some of the lectures ;d

I’ve had my fair share of teachers who completely sucked at their job. Thank god for the internet and it’s ability to explain things I otherwise would have failed :P

I love your blog post title. I think one of my biggest pet peeves is people who complain about a situation, but then do nothing to change it. Little things, like my husband having a headache, bitching about it, then admitting he didn’t take anything for it… it’s like, “Yeah? If you’re not going to even try to do something about it, quit complaining!”

Weight loss is hard, and it’s a long road to haul, no matter how you go about doing it. But if you have the determination and willpower to make it happen, and you follow through on the necessary changes, it WILL happen. You, me, and every other woman — and man — out there who has lost weight are all living proof of that.

P.S. What the heck does a cluttered home have to do with being unable to lose weight?!

I stole the title from a House MD episode. HE KNOWS ALL! :P

Yeah, weight loss is hard a hard and sucky road, but as you said you have to have the determination and willpower via following through in order to lose it. The cluttered home was just an example of doing nothing to change the situation, not the weight loss.

My mother is a prime example of that. She can’t pay her electric bill or buy groceries, yet she has a new overpriced harness for her dog and a digital photo frame. WTF?

I wish i had a quote for the moment… lol I admit I complain about my weight and money, but it’s usually to say that ‘I need to do this more’ or something similar, although on occasion I have been known to say that groceries are too expensive :$. I just recently set a bunch of goals for dealing with my weight (going for a walk twice a week, stuff like that). So its my own damn fault if I haven’t done it. Besides, it’s usually a case of what you’re physically doing not what you’re eating (unless its total crap). There are some things that are quite cheap, I can make pork chops and potatoes or under $10! lol And I love that you put having a cluttered home on your list…that’s another of my own issues that I’ve been needing to work on, lol. But I mastered Mac and Cheese by the age of 12 and make the best! Haha! ;d

I just agree. We’ve discussed this before, I’ve blogged this before. People who do nothing but complain no matter what and don’t do crap to fix it or help the situation are annoying.

Wow! I love the new layout, and I agree with you, most of what you stated applies to EVERYTHING in everyone’s lives. People just keep screwing around and aren’t really dedicating themselves to actually solving problems. I’ve missed you though, we need to catch up!

Great post! I agree with this post 100% I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve made excuses, just like the next person, but you’re absolutely correct. If you want something done you have to get your ass up and do it. I remember when I was in 1st grade and was told I had asthma I refused to use an inhaler everyday like other kids who had asthma. I made a promise to myself not to rely on the inhaler and I never did. That was one accomplishment I was so proud of as a kid. Now, I’ve grown out of my asthma and I wonder if had I relied on the inhaler instead of doing what I did if that would have affected me today.

Anyway, this is a lyric from my favorite Bright Eyes song called “If Winter Ends.” I’ve always felt like this line was motivating thus why it’s my favorite song.

“Because if I can’t learn to make myself feel better
Then how can I expect anyone else to give a shit?”

Hey lady I agree with you. I’m changing my way of life too because you’ve motivated me so much ^_^ You look absolutely stunning and I can hardly imagine how much more amazing you’ll look when you reach your goal. I also have a baby gift in mind so HURRY UP, TELL YOUR HUBBY TO GIVE YOU MORE NOOKIE AND GET PREGGO SO I CAN GET IT FOR YOU! If I can find it…lol. Drop me a line sometime will you! Miss you lots <3

Just want to chime in that I completely agree!

And see when I go and tell people exactly this, I turn into insensitive bitch. =P

I just have NO sympathy for people who bitch and bitch and bitch and don’t do a damn thing to remedy it.

God, this reminds me of my co-workers. One in particular who says her husband and her have no money and they are barely scraping by…but they both have brand new cars. I asked her one day why they didn’t just sell the new cars and get used ones and she said there was no way she could drive a used car. WTF? Ok then. Bitch that you don’t have any money, but keep your brand new cars. Durr.

Yeah. I mentioned losing some premium packages on someones cable bill, dropping a few cell phone plans that were added on, getting rid of extra expenses for things that are luxuries and the person flipped. OMG I CANNOT DO THAT! I JUST HAVE TO HAVE IT! No wonder you’re in debt.
