Saying “thank you for the money” isn’t very different from thanking them for anything else– except for one big thing: don’t name the amount.
This is the only case I can think of where you are not supposed to be specific about the gift that was given. It’s okay to say you’re thankful for the money in general, and it’s also okay to discuss what you plan to do with the money. Just stay away from saying, “Thanks for the $20.”
